TAURUS ON PLAYA

Since I began traveling for photography, I would be in a beautiful location and wished Cher and Seth could be there to share the experience with me. Up until now, it just wasn’t possible. But all that has changed now that we have a sweet new (used) RV. We went on our maiden camping trip this weekend and it was really cool. No more bathing out of a 5 gallon bucket at Burning Man. No more overpriced hotels wondering if the sheets were really changed. And best of all, my family gets to see the amazing places I’ve been and am planning to go. Let the adventures begin!

NORTH DOWNTOWN DALLAS

I took this during the Meetup last month at the Chase Tower in downtown Dallas. We were having to shoot through glass in a well lit room, which usually creates horrible reflections. Thankfully, I have a little device called a Lens Skirt, which suction cups to the window and eliminates the unwanted reflections. I think I could have sold them all if I had some extras.

I posted this photo over on Flickr a few days ago and the dang thing blew up. It made their Explore category and it received over 7,000 views in 3 days. I love it when that happens!

DAILY PHOTO – THE EDGE OF NEW YORK

During the 3 days I got to spend in New York for the International Auto Show, I spent all my free time out in the city shooting. We bought tickets for sunset at the Top of the Rock. I think next time I’ll pay the “day” price and stay up there longer. It’s not like they clear the place out just for the “sunset” people. Every rail was about 3 people deep and it took quite a bit of waiting to get a good spot.

COMEDY

This is one of the last shots I took on last Saturday’s Dallas Photowalk. I usually get started around this time, but the walk began at 3:30, it was really hot, and the family and I were getting pretty spent. It was nice to get to hang out with some other photographers and get a little exercise. This is the first HDR that I’ve posted taken with my new D800. Upgrading is fun, but you soon realize that you have to upgrade other stuff too… like RAM.

WHO YOU GONNA CALL?

I took this photo in Dallas while out walking with James Brandon and Scott Jarvie, while he was in town. I had never been to this part of Dallas before and it was really cool. It didn’t hurt that it had just stopped raining and there were low clouds clipping the tops of the buildings.

THE GUCCI WINDOW NYC

It was a whirlwind trip to NYC and I was trying to squeeze in as much street photography as possible. This was on our last day and I got up early to walk over and shoot the Apple store. On my way there I stopped to set up and shoot this Gucci store window.

It’s a little weird now being back home and not shooting all day out on the streets. I loved being in NYC. I wouldn’t want to live there, but it would be really cool to rent a room for a month there to really take it all in. I wonder which would be the best month to do that?

A WHISPER WAS AN ECHO

This is perhaps my favorite photo so far from my recent trip to the Grand Canyon. If you’ve never been, it is just breathtaking.We searched for a spot where there weren’t many tourists, and it really paid off. It was super quiet except for the occasional rumble of thunder off in the distance. I can’t wait to get back and explore the Grand Canyon some more!

SCORPION VS. MANTIS

This was the perfect night for photography at Burning Man. It was Saturday, and everything was happening in full force. We had burned “the Man” earlier in the night and everyone was in a festive mood. There was no wind, so the D700 was coming out to play for the night.

These two mutant vehicles were preparing for a night out on the playa. They were making last minute adjustments and checking their fire when I got this shot. I fired off 9 brackets from this position in order to have several sequences to merge. People were walking by and the vehicles would alternate fire, but never together. So this shot is merged in Photoshop, combining the best of several photos.
