Since I began traveling for photography, I would be in a beautiful location and wished Cher and Seth could be there to share the experience with me. Up until now, it just wasn’t possible. But all that has changed now that we have a sweet new (used) RV. We went on our maiden camping trip this weekend and it was really cool. No more bathing out of a 5 gallon bucket at Burning Man. No more overpriced hotels wondering if the sheets were really changed. And best of all, my family gets to see the amazing places I’ve been and am planning to go. Let the adventures begin!

THE BLUE MORPHEUS
September 20th, 2012, posted in 2012, Burning ManThe Blue Morpheus Camp was full of awesome people. They are based out of Seattle and are really chill. I was introduced to them by a friend I met last year and was glad to get to hang out.
At Burning Man last year, I always wanted to go out on an art car, but it never happened. So when I got the opportunity to go this year, I was really excited. Little did I know what type an adventure we were in for. It started off as normally as Burning Man can be. We went to this party at the Hotel Ashram Galactica, which was this amazing camp decked to the nines. It had a cool meditation dome with bells and chimes and pillows all around. The full bar was a separate 50×100′ tent that was absolutely slammed. They had these tents that were more like rooms with antique furniture and decorated very elegantly. Ashram Galactica had it goin’ on!
From there we headed toward Opulent Temple and noticed the winds starting to pick up. We didn’t stay at Opulent long as the winds were getting stronger and stronger and decided to start to head back to camp. At this point it got really nuts. The temperature was in the low 50′s, but the wind was gusting easily at 60mph. And here I was on top of this art car riding the storm like Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump. Visibility was nearly zero. Peds and bikers would dart in front of the headlights then disappear just as quickly. Eventually one of the passengers got off and guided the Morpheus using lasers like runway lights.
When we got back to their camp an hour later, all the passengers were completely covered in dust. It was awesome! I went back to check on my camp, and thankfully it was still there. One of my supports to my shade structure broke, but that was the only damage. I wrapped it in duct tape and it was good to go. All in all, it was a fun and unforgettable night atop the Blue Morpheus. I can’t wait to chill with these folks next year!

COMEDY
May 29th, 2012, posted in 2012, HDR, TexasThis is one of the last shots I took on last Saturday’s Dallas Photowalk. I usually get started around this time, but the walk began at 3:30, it was really hot, and the family and I were getting pretty spent. It was nice to get to hang out with some other photographers and get a little exercise. This is the first HDR that I’ve posted taken with my new D800. Upgrading is fun, but you soon realize that you have to upgrade other stuff too… like RAM.
TEXAS EFFIGY – BURNING MAN 2011
May 14th, 2012, posted in UncategorizedI’m still without a Burning Man ticket. Hopefully once the physical tickets are sent out, some will become available.
This photo was taken during the regional effigy burns, where 12 sculptures were ignited at once. Of course my favorite was the Texas regional, so that is the one that +Trey Ratcliff and I set up for. Everything started off fine, then this sucker got burning and things got really hot really fast. We were on the front line and before you know it, I felt like the priest in Indiana Jones having his face melted off. The crowd started to move back and we grabbed our gear and backed up another 50 feet ourselves, but I’ll never forget how that moment felt.
