TAURUS ON PLAYA

April 29th, 2013, posted in Burning Man, Nevada

Since I began traveling for photography, I would be in a beautiful location and wished Cher and Seth could be there to share the experience with me. Up until now, it just wasn’t possible. But all that has changed now that we have a sweet new (used) RV. We went on our maiden camping trip this weekend and it was really cool. No more bathing out of a 5 gallon bucket at Burning Man. No more overpriced hotels wondering if the sheets were really changed. And best of all, my family gets to see the amazing places I’ve been and am planning to go. Let the adventures begin!

NORTH DOWNTOWN DALLAS

February 28th, 2013, posted in 2013, Blog, HDR, Texas

I took this during the Meetup last month at the Chase Tower in downtown Dallas. We were having to shoot through glass in a well lit room, which usually creates horrible reflections. Thankfully, I have a little device called a Lens Skirt, which suction cups to the window and eliminates the unwanted reflections. I think I could have sold them all if I had some extras.

I posted this photo over on Flickr a few days ago and the dang thing blew up. It made their Explore category and it received over 7,000 views in 3 days. I love it when that happens!

THE BLUE MORPHEUS

September 20th, 2012, posted in 2012, Burning Man

The Blue Morpheus Camp was full of awesome people. They are based out of Seattle and are really chill. I was introduced to them by a friend I met last year and was glad to get to hang out.
At Burning Man last year, I always wanted to go out on an art car, but it never happened. So when I got the opportunity to go this year, I was really excited. Little did I know what type an adventure we were in for. It started off as normally as Burning Man can be. We went to this party at the Hotel Ashram Galactica, which was this amazing camp decked to the nines. It had a cool meditation dome with bells and chimes and pillows all around. The full bar was a separate 50×100′ tent that was absolutely slammed. They had these tents that were more like rooms with antique furniture and decorated very elegantly. Ashram Galactica had it goin’ on!
From there we headed toward Opulent Temple and noticed the winds starting to pick up. We didn’t stay at Opulent long as the winds were getting stronger and stronger and decided to start to head back to camp. At this point it got really nuts. The temperature was in the low 50’s, but the wind was gusting easily at 60mph. And here I was on top of this art car riding the storm like Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump. Visibility was nearly zero. Peds and bikers would dart in front of the headlights then disappear just as quickly. Eventually one of the passengers got off and guided the Morpheus using lasers like runway lights.
When we got back to their camp an hour later, all the passengers were completely covered in dust. It was awesome! I went back to check on my camp, and thankfully it was still there. One of my supports to my shade structure broke, but that was the only damage. I wrapped it in duct tape and it was good to go. All in all, it was a fun and unforgettable night atop the Blue Morpheus. I can’t wait to chill with these folks next year!

STARPORT 2012

This sculpture called Starport 2012 graced the entrance to Center Camp at Burning Man. It was so cool. At night it lit up with color changing LEDs. I want to build one over my driveway.

DAILY PHOTO – IN THIS TWILIGHT

I consider myself pretty good a Photoshop, but when it comes to the blog and HTML, I’m pretty far behind. So if you occasionally see something like this, you’ll know that I’m learning and testing different things.

I love using photoshop to extract the beauty out of the simplest things.

DAILY PHOTO – THE EDGE OF NEW YORK

June 7th, 2012, posted in 2012, Blog, HDR, New York

During the 3 days I got to spend in New York for the International Auto Show, I spent all my free time out in the city shooting. We bought tickets for sunset at the Top of the Rock. I think next time I’ll pay the “day” price and stay up there longer. It’s not like they clear the place out just for the “sunset” people. Every rail was about 3 people deep and it took quite a bit of waiting to get a good spot.
