Since I began traveling for photography, I would be in a beautiful location and wished Cher and Seth could be there to share the experience with me. Up until now, it just wasn’t possible. But all that has changed now that we have a sweet new (used) RV. We went on our maiden camping trip this weekend and it was really cool. No more bathing out of a 5 gallon bucket at Burning Man. No more overpriced hotels wondering if the sheets were really changed. And best of all, my family gets to see the amazing places I’ve been and am planning to go. Let the adventures begin!

I took this during the Meetup last month at the Chase Tower in downtown Dallas. We were having to shoot through glass in a well lit room, which usually creates horrible reflections. Thankfully, I have a little device called a Lens Skirt, which suction cups to the window and eliminates the unwanted reflections. I think I could have sold them all if I had some extras.

I posted this photo over on Flickr a few days ago and the dang thing blew up. It made their Explore category and it received over 7,000 views in 3 days. I love it when that happens!

It was my first time to go and photograph the famous Big Sur hole in the rock. My friend, James Brandon, had been here before, and he was able to quickly get us here, despite the road being unmarked and small. Once arriving I could see why it was such a photographers destination. The sun had just begun to shine through the rock and several photographers were getting ‘that shot’. I snuck in and got the same shot as the others, but then quickly darted off to take in some of the other beautiful compositions.

We stayed quite a while after sunset. We know with these advanced cameras and a tripod, they can take in detail in the near dark that human eyes cannot. This photo was a 25 second exposure at f5, ISO 80. I positioned the camera really low to the water to get a nice, smooth reflection.

Here is a photo of a view into downtown Dallas. This was the night of the supermoon and I took my family for a little hike west of the city for some photo goodness.

I shot this with my 70-200 telephoto lens with a 2x teleconverter attached. I love the way it compresses the buildings when zooming in. In post-processing this one, I added a little grunge texture for mystery, drama, and to give it a cold feeling. I didn’t get any good shots of the supermoon, but I still enjoyed the outing and time spent with my family, plus I did get this one.

Burning Man ticket info was released yesterday. I’ve got my work cut out for me getting my family out there this year. It should be a fun adventure. I can’t wait!

Another year has come to a close, but another one is fresh and new. 2012 had some unexpected adventures for me as I traved from coast to coast and a few places in between. My business has kept me super busy, and it’s been the most fruitful year of my life. I’m looking forward to jumping back on this blogging horse for another attempt at a photo every day, along with some thoughts or tips that I’ve picked up. I’d like to really turn this blog into something more. So cheers to the New Year, may it be our best ever.
