INSIDE THE TEMPLE

Inside the Temple of Juno at Burning Man 2012. Besides the gentle wind coming through the lattice, you could hear a pin drop.

THE BLUE MORPHEUS

September 20th, 2012, posted in 2012, Burning Man

The Blue Morpheus Camp was full of awesome people. They are based out of Seattle and are really chill. I was introduced to them by a friend I met last year and was glad to get to hang out.
At Burning Man last year, I always wanted to go out on an art car, but it never happened. So when I got the opportunity to go this year, I was really excited. Little did I know what type an adventure we were in for. It started off as normally as Burning Man can be. We went to this party at the Hotel Ashram Galactica, which was this amazing camp decked to the nines. It had a cool meditation dome with bells and chimes and pillows all around. The full bar was a separate 50×100′ tent that was absolutely slammed. They had these tents that were more like rooms with antique furniture and decorated very elegantly. Ashram Galactica had it goin’ on!
From there we headed toward Opulent Temple and noticed the winds starting to pick up. We didn’t stay at Opulent long as the winds were getting stronger and stronger and decided to start to head back to camp. At this point it got really nuts. The temperature was in the low 50′s, but the wind was gusting easily at 60mph. And here I was on top of this art car riding the storm like Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump. Visibility was nearly zero. Peds and bikers would dart in front of the headlights then disappear just as quickly. Eventually one of the passengers got off and guided the Morpheus using lasers like runway lights.
When we got back to their camp an hour later, all the passengers were completely covered in dust. It was awesome! I went back to check on my camp, and thankfully it was still there. One of my supports to my shade structure broke, but that was the only damage. I wrapped it in duct tape and it was good to go. All in all, it was a fun and unforgettable night atop the Blue Morpheus. I can’t wait to chill with these folks next year!

STARPORT 2012

This sculpture called Starport 2012 graced the entrance to Center Camp at Burning Man. It was so cool. At night it lit up with color changing LEDs. I want to build one over my driveway.

I took this on my last night while working for RIMOWA in Canada. I’d really like to go back and visit one day. Everyone was really nice and chilled.

THE NORTHERN SPIRE

I’m going Burning Man photo heavy this week because I can feel my ticket getting closer to me. It is really what it is all about. The highs and lows, the uncertainty. The bliss of achievement. When I get back this year, it will be so much sweeter because of the struggle. I’m sad that I can’t bring my family again, though. This ticket mess has not allowed us to plan properly for us all. It is easy with just me. I can load up the Rabbit and fly… but with the family, we’d have to rent a uhaul to bring 3x the amount of bikes and gear, food and water. I think it was meant to be this way, though. I’ve heard that the conditions are going to be super rough this year with the lack of rain. White outs are inevitable. I’d prefer their first experience be more than just survival.

BLACK ROCK ROLLER DISCO

All night, every night, you can get these crazy light paintings at Burning Man. I would just set up at someplace interesting (which was so easy to find) and wait for something weird to go by. This year should be even better. More art installations have been registered than ever before.

TEMPLE UNICORN

I don’t even remember this little filly posing for me, but I’m glad she did! I can feel the energy building for this years burn. I don’t have a ticket yet, but I’m sure there is one out there for me… somewhere.
There are like 300 tix on Stubhub, but that goes against everything that Burning Man is about. I have some new art to bring for gifts and some Public Work shifts I’d like to volunteer for, but it’s really hard to plan when it is still out of my hands. Come on Universe… help a burner out! <3

BLUE BROADWAY

July 6th, 2012, posted in 2012, HDR, New York

I loved photographing in New York. Every corner is a unique composition. I walked upon this store and the blue light was just blinding. It must have been some Euro clothing store because the mannequins looked really weird. Of course I had to get some light trails, so I ran across the street and set up. Remember, you can purchase a print of this through my SmugMug account. Just click the photo to take you there.

DAILY PHOTO – IN THIS TWILIGHT

I consider myself pretty good a Photoshop, but when it comes to the blog and HTML, I’m pretty far behind. So if you occasionally see something like this, you’ll know that I’m learning and testing different things.

I love using photoshop to extract the beauty out of the simplest things.
